98年下學期

第一章的重點在於區辨心裡治療與社會工作的職志、目標，並在娓娓道來社工專業如何透過私人執業、專業化建制，趨近心裡治療的過程中，重新肯認社會工作，其無法被心理取徑專業取代的獨特價值。(雖然有一些論及對改造社會的信念之段落，讓我忍不住想到可怕的烏托邦預言小說，《1984》以及《美麗新世界》)

Social Workers help people make use of and develop community and social resources to build connections with others and reduce alienation and isolation; psychotherapists help people to alter, reconstruct, and improve the self.

Social work's mission should be to build a meaning, a purpose, and a sense of obligation for the community. It is only by creating a community that we establish a basis for commitment, obligation, and social support.
...Psychotherapy will not enable us to do that, and the further down the psychotherapeutic path social workers go, the less effective they will be in achieving their true mission.

Social workers should not be secular priests in the church of individual repair; they should be the caretakers of the conscience of the community. they should not ask, "Does it feel good to you?" They should help communities create good. There must be a profession that provides a vision that enables us to direct our energies to the creation of healthy community.
